Project Objective:
In Pakistan, ACTED has been active since 2005 and has provided assistance across all provinces to an estimated 6.9 million people. The assistance has included emergency response to meet the immediate and live-saving needs of natural disaster and complex emergency affected households, as well as recovery and development support in the form of education and livelihoods promotion and assistance.
Given the large number of out-of-school (OOS) and dropped-out girls in Pakistan, ACTED has planned an integrated education programme through non-formal based education system in selected districts of Sindh and KP, aiming to address simultaneously the physical, qualitative, socio-cultural, family/community, learning and systemic barriers to children's access.
In the said context, ACTED intends to hire community based teachers for its potential Literacy and Numeracy centres currently being established in district Kashmore.
Assignment:
The teachers will be based in villages of Kashmore and Jacobabad District. The job holder will be responsible for providing active support to the core programme objective by focusing to ensure quality non formal education of adolescent girls enrolled in the non-formal centers. The incumbent will plan with several different stakeholders to ensure quality education and learning environment for learners and towards either self-employment, entrepreneurship, or collaborative work opportunities/partnerships for livelihood development opportunities. The incumbent will comply to safeguarding and child protection policies at all times of engagement.
Objectives
1. Provide non formal education (NFE) to learners through relevant syllabus
2. Interact with learners and motivate them for Education through extra curriculum activities on collaboration with IPs.
3. Maintain Classroom environment learners’ friendly.
4. Ensure adherence to ACTED’s safeguarding and Child Protection policies
5. Involve learners in recreational and motivational activities
6. Closely work with Mentor for quality education
7. Closely work with Retention and Transition Officer (ACTED)
8. Closely coordinate with SMC/Community Mobilizers of ACTED for community support required at Centre
9. Provide orientation to learners on life skills
10. Facilitate Health screening of learners and promote health and Hygiene awareness among beneficiaries
11. Maintain centre’ and learners’ record along with centre supplies, learner aids etc
12. Close coordination with SMCs/PTAs to assess the learners’ educational performance
13. Ensure learners’ attendance and retention
14. Facilitate in assessment tests for learners by any other partners/stakeholders
15. Involve learners in celebration of national events as well as commemoration of thematic days
16. Maintain/Develop linkages with formal schools to develop pleasant environment for Mainstreaming learners
17. To complete any other task as assigned by the supervisor.
18. Suggest/facilitate learners’ selection for TVET Courses
Project Implementation
The Job holder will be responsible to report on programme functioning according to standard requirements of this role. The incumbent will be responsible to identify programme gaps vis challenges, barriers in enrolment, attendance, course, retention and transitioning, and share the findings with supervisor. Ensure safeguarding for learners (girls), implement ACTED’ zero tolerance policy.
Internal Coordination
- Share monthly centre progress report
- Facilitate classroom observation with Mentor and Program Quality Officers
- To make sure other IP staff members are visiting field according to the plan
- To make sure learning centre is running smoothly and according to set criteria
- To participate in SMC/teachers/community/parent meetings
- To check learning centres condition and learning environment
Preferred
- Good experience of working with SMC`s/PTC`s/ Communities, teachers and students for ensuring retention, attendance and consistency of education process.
- Good understanding of challenges involved in implementing education and or non-formal education programmes for adolescent girls.
- Good understanding of child safeguarding/protection issues in Pakistan. Particularly for girls.
- Previous experience of working in education or non-formal education in Pakistan.
- Excellent Sindhi language skills and good interpersonal, communication, motivation and presentation skills.
