Job Description:

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. We are seeking qualified and highly motivated applicants for: Timergara Lower Dir project.

MAIN PURPOSE

  • To assess maternity patients referred by Triage or emergency cases to MCH; provide medical treatment, consultation and assessment if there is a need to refer to OPD or to a hospital; in emergency cases, do normal deliveries.
  • Initial assessment of patient
  • Evaluate the patient upon arrival and prepare and arrange the referral if required
  • Register and complete patient file if not yet registered with reception or triage
  • Prepare the necessary documentation for referral to hospital or OPD, or to emergency delivery
  • Patient care, treatment and delivery in delivery room and observation room
  • Follow up of every patient in labor and fill in the parthogram efficiently
  • Inform expat Midwife / Gynecologist  when labor doesn't evolve correctly or any other complication
  • Carry out delivery with active management
  • Carry out first care of the new-born; in case of complications, carry out initial resuscitation of the new-born and notify the expat midwife or neonate doctor
  • Prepare and arrange the referral if required
  • Patient care, postpartum follow-up in observation room
  • Make sure All postnatal /post Abortion patient receive family planning counseling . 
  • Take vital signs of patient and baby based on established time schedule
  • Distribute the medication according to the prescribed time
  • Make a round in the ward and inform the expat midwife and ER doctor if required
  • Give instructions to the mother abo ut pain control, height of the uterus, colouring of the conjunctives, breastfeeding, wound care, medication, drip, bladder catheterisation etc.
  • Supervise new-born care: temperature, weight, umbilical cord, fontanels, skin condition etc.
  • Make sure all neonate are vaccinated
  • Verify that the patient has received the documents: discharge form, follow up date
  • Management of materials, consumables, delivery room
  • Keep delivery room clean and tidy
  • Ensure that contaminated waste (including needles and other sharps) is segregated and managed according to MSF protocols
  • Contributing to proper management of stocks and renewing orders
  •  Check that the delivery room is clean and disinfected
  •  Check that medical equipment in the delivery room is functioning properly (e.g. suction pumps, oxygen concentrator, scales, lighting, etc.)
  •  Ensuring linen are regularly changed in the Delivery room and soiled sheets are removed and sent to sterilization room for laundry
  •  Reporting
  •  Ensure information is handed over to the next shift
  •  Communicate regularly with expat midwife or ER doctor about patient status and treatment
  •  Service Assessment and Development.
  •  Taking part in and contributing towards training and internal evaluations and making an ongoing effort to maintain and update medical knowledge and skills
